The Effects of Multiculturalism

This was one of the most interesting things I read last night, and I thought it might provide something to discuss. To be honest, I wish I had made this speech. Read what he ‘said’ (I’m pretty sure its not all original) and tell me if you could agree with Lamm’s take on the situation, or if his comments are far too appalling to consider.

The following is taken directly from the article “Bilingual Bicultural Speech From Gov. Lamm”:

We know Dick Lamm as the former Governor of Colorado. In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of American’s finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor by the name of Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, Mexifornia,” explaining how immigration – both legal and illegal” was destroying the entire state of California. He said it would march across the country until it destroyed all vestiges of The American Dream.

Moments later, former Colorado Governor Richard D. Lamm stood up and gave a stunning speech on how to destroy America. The audience sat spellbound as he described eight methods for the destruction of the United States. He said, “If you believe that America is too smug, too self-satisfied, too rich, then let’s destroy America. It is not that hard to do. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and fall and that ‘[an] autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.’”

“Here is how they do it:”

“First, to destroy America, turn America into a bilingual or multi-lingual and bicultural country.” History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: “The histories of bilingual and bi-cultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, and Corsicans.”

Lamm went on: Second, to destroy America, “Invent ‘multiculturalism’ and encourage immigrants to maintain their culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal. That there are no cultural differences. I would make it an article of faith that the Black and Hispanic dropout rates are due solely to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out of bounds.”

Third, “[we] could make the United States an ‘Hispanic Quebec’ without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently, ‘The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved not by tolerance but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentricity and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.’”

Lamm said, “I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with the salad bowl metaphor. It is important to ensure that we have various cultural subgroups living in America enforcing their differences rather than as Americans, emphasizing their similarities.”

“Fourth, I would make our fastest growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated, and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50% dropout rate from high. school.”

“My fifth point for destroying America would be to get big foundations and business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of ‘Victimology.’ I would get all minorities to think that their lack of success was the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population.”

“My sixth plan for America’s downfall would include dual citizenship, and promote divided loyalties. I would celebrate diversity over unity. I would stress differences rather than similarities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other – that is, when they are not killing each other. A diverse, peaceful, or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together. Look at the ancient Greeks. The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they posse ssed a common language and literature; and they worshipped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic games. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty Yet all these bonds were not strong enough to overcome two factors: local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions. Greece fell. “E. Pluribus Unum” — From many, one. In that historical reality, if we put the emphasis o! n the ‘pluribus’. Instead of the ‘Unum,’ we will balkanize America as surely as Kosovo.”

“Next to last, I would place all subjects off limits; make it taboo to talk about anything against the cult of ‘diversity.’ I would find a word similar to ‘heretic’ in the 16th century – that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like ‘racist’ or ‘xenophobe’ halt discussion and debate. Having made America a bilingual/bicultural country, having established multi-culturism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of ‘Victimology,’ I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra: That because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good. I would make every individual immigrant symmetric and ignore the cumulative impact of millions of them.”

In the last minute of his speech, Governor Lamm wiped his brow. Profound silence followed. Finally he said,. “Lastly, I would censor Victor Hanson Davis’s book Mexifornia. His book is dangerous. It exposes the plan to destroy America. If you feel America. deserves to be destroyed, don’t read that book.”

There was no applause. A chilling fear quietly rose like an ominous cloud above every attendee at the conference. Every American in that room knew that everything Lamm enumerated was proceeding methodically, quietly, darkly, yet pervasively across the United States today. Discussion is being suppressed…American jobs are vanishing into the Third World as corporations create a Third World in America – take note of California and other states – to date, [approximately] ten million illegal aliens [have entered the country] and [the rate is] growing fast. It is reminiscent of George Orwell’s book “1984.” In that story, three slogans are engraved in the Ministry of Truth building: “War is peace,” “Freedom is slavery,” and “Ignorance is strength.”

Website Celebrates 100th Post

Yes, that day has finally come, MinorSpeculum has made it into the century mark of Blogsphere immortality. And although participation is at an all-time low and MySpace continues to dominate the free time of all our peers, save five or six, we will continue to thrive.

Honestly though, I went to a very popular social commentary Blog recently (no, I will not link you to it because it is a direct competitor) and I found that there were no comments under their posts. Just a bunch of adds and articles with no interaction. I mean, seriously, what good is making money off of a website? Who needs it? I just get on here to express my pain about society to anyone who will listen and occasionally throw in a joke or two about it all. I don’t want to make money off of MinorSpeculum at the cost of no one commenting on the site.

That being said, if you care to make a donation, PayPal me using my e-mail address.

Just kidding.

But if you’re ever in the mood, tell a friend or two or fifty, to check out the site and add some comments. Tell us that we’re idiots or geniuses or just plain young adults lost in a world where we no longer exist without the Internet. But please, never compare us to other money hoarding blogs or that pathetic excuse for a teen dating site MySpace.

I’m still waiting, by the way, for the phone call from Rupert Murdoch, it was rumored he wanted to purchase MinorSpeculum for $500. I’m waiting so I can tell him, “Hell no! Make it a grand.”

Montenegro Independent

Since the early 1990’s, the former Yugoslavia has been battered, beaten, bruised, and mutilated into letting go of its federal republics; the latest appendage to go in this amputation of states is the tiny state of Montenegro, leaving Serbia landlocked, shocked, and perhaps even awed.

Reports (“Ballot paves way for tiny country to step out of shadows.” Times Online) have indicated that Montenegrins voted for independence by a slim majority; 55.4% of those who voted (keep in mind that the threshold required for independence was set at 55%), have decided for the roughly 700,000 Montenegrin citizens, that independence is the only solution to faster European integration and economic growth.

Jila Stoijovic stated,”I am so happy today that we have achieved independence. This victory is for all of our children.” The sentiment was echoed throughout much of the nation, despite what the split vote for independence would indicate. While it is important to remember the new independent status that Montenegro now enjoys, it is difficult to ignore the ties that it has to Serbia.

Next stop for Montenegro: economic decline, moral decay, and shattered hopes/dreams.

An E.U. Commission representative has been assigned to put Montenegro through the fourteen year long admission process. Montenegrin head of the Ministry of Defensive Engineering, Uri Checlanyza claimed, “This is the fastest any nation has been ‘admitted’ to the group.”

Da Vinci Second to Star Wars

With over 60 million copies floating around the globe, it was a no-brainer that ‘The Da Vinci Code’ would be a smash box office hit. Even if Sony hid the movie until Cannes just three days before the global premier. Even if Tom Hanks had a Joe Dirt mullet and a wax creased neck wrinkle. Even if the movie was simply Tom Hanks sitting in front of a camera by himself reading the novel to the audience. The movie still would have made a worldwide $224 million in its opening weekend, second only to ‘Episode III.’

Even though it was a terrible flick.

If you have read the over hyped and oversold novel, then don’t waste 148 minutes of your life, much less, the eight bucks. If you’re pining to see a good film, go see ‘Art School Confidential’ at, say, 4:00 PM. Also if you have read the book, you know it is dense, full of history, and too smart for you. Really, it could have never been a good movie. It was just too much history, too much interior monologue, and too much conversation between guys that could never have possibly known as much about history as they did.

The movie is chock full of dialogue, and rightfully so. The storyline needs to be explained. It is definitely not common knowledge that Jesus was a mere mortal who wed and bred with Mary Magdalene, who was supposed to be the mother of the Catholic Church. Then there are the secret societies that no one has ever heard of and the underground war that has shaped humanity over the last 2,000 years.

But honestly, does anyone even care about Robert Langdon, the main character? No. That’s why it’s a bad movie. The ultimate idea is the only thing that makes it a good book. The claim that Jesus was not all that we have been led to believe and that there is a conspiracy so big that it has oppressed women and caused countless deaths and wars. That’s why the book sold so many copies.

The movie though, will only be as big as the novel allows it to be. Outside of the three years on the best seller’s list, this movie would simply be a Tom Hanks starring, Ron Howard directed, blasphemous, conspiracy theory. No better than the guys standing outside the White House with megaphones claiming 9/11 was planned by Bush and Co.

But still, as I was walking up to the theater to see the movie, I witnessed people running to get inside. I reminded them they should not be running like it was ‘Star Wars,’ and truth be told, ‘The Da Vinci Code’ was most definitely not.

The Redneck Rumble in the…Basement?

In one of the most anticipated events of the year, Robert ‘Berto’ Espinoza failed to deliver on what was expected to be a marathon match of two unbeaten boxers (both 0-0). His challenger was indeed, the one and only Matt Winnell, a Watervliet grad of 2005, and an exact copy of one John Howley, at least from behind.

Although sources with knowledge of the actual event have been hard to track down, a confirmed report, by simply watching the video, reveals that ‘Berto’ was brutally punished by three direct haymakers to the jaw. The event unfolded in the basement of the winner, Winnell, who looked right at home in the hillbilly ring.

After Robert took the third and final shot to his jaw, just nine seconds into the match, officials promptly called the match. This was followed by a brief convulsing by Espinoza while lying helplessly on his back. Winnell didn’t seem surprised by the effort, subsequently grabbing a beer and heading for a toothless chick in ripped jeans and a halter-top. Some reports have identified the girl as Mr. Espinoza’s own sister.

When confronted with this notion, Mr. Espinoza responded only by saying, “I’m training hard and am expecting a rematch within the next month.” Promoters of the fight hope to have at least a three round bout in able to attract underage teens to the ‘Basement’ for five dollar dixie cups to tap the pony keg of Natural Ice.

“It’s not that we want to see Matty [Matt Winnell] lose, we just want to sell beer to save up for the annual wrestling match in Bangor,” said owner and proprietor of the rematch, Mrs. Winnell.

And if that’s not enough, Hartford alumni and heavyweight hillbilly ring champion Dallas Watson phoned in to defend his former alma mater’s name. “I will tell you what, send that kid my way, I’ll teach him how to scrap in a real ring,” Watson said. Adding, “I got somethin’ for his ass right here,” while he crossed his arms into an X and shot them down around his genitalia.

The lesson to be learned here is: if you ever feel like boxing in a kid’s basement with drunken underage kids crowding around, make sure no cameras are near because in this super fast age of the internet even a cocky commentator 1400 miles away can throw in a jab below the belt.

All names used in this story are made up and intended in no way to degrade those involved.

Open Forum?

This is a call to all visitors of minorspeculum. We are thinking of making this site a little more interactive. To be sure, this would allow for anyone who is interested to start their own threads or topics. I noticed sports has been brought up recently and I know a few people out there are more up on the sports scene. Mike and I would like to update the site daily but we feel that it really isn’t worth it, to be honest.

So I am going to give this message three days to allow for anyone who visits who is interested in posting their own headings like Mike and Larry and I do to simply comment on this thread with their real name and a simple yes or no. Yes meaning you would like to write for the site and no meaning you just want to remain a viewer. Either way, if you read this at least comment something, ie – your name and ‘Jared is slow.’ Anything to let us know that you are at least looking at the page one out of every three days.

Thank you all for your support. We really do want to make it interactive here so everyone can comment and write their own blog entries.
